Three separate days
9:30am till 4:30pm (30 minutes lunch break)

These sessions are for Local Authority (Kent) schools only. This three day course is aimed at new or inexperienced school based finance staff and includes an introduction to the financial regulations and guidance that schools must adhere to. The course will enable delegates to gain a good understanding of all aspects of school finance. Delegates will learn how to use FMS6 and this will include month end reporting.

Delegates are required to download, print and read various documents pertinent to the course prior to attending Day 1. A document will be provided to delegates upon allocation of a space. It is imperative that delegates complete this document as this will support and enhance their learning experience. Delegates to bring all completed documentation on Day 1.


Course Description

This course will include demonstrations and practise on the routines required on FMS6 to produce monthly accounts. Procedures will be linked to the KCC Financial Controls and the Schools Model Finance Policy.

Day 1

The day will concentrate on an Introduction to School Finance and the Accounting Package FMS6 and will include:-

• The Schools Financial Services team
• Navigating FMS6
• The Coding Structure on FMS6 and how to amend it
• How to Input an Example School Budget
• Set Up Routines - i.e. orders, petty cash and cheque books
• Petty Cash
• Non Invoiced Income
• Useful Reports

Day 2

The day will concentrate on all areas of Accounts Payable which include:-

• Suppliers
• Orders
• Deliveries
• Invoices and Credit Notes
• Cheque Processing
• BACS/Online Payment Processing
• Corporate Cards
• Useful Reports
Day 3

The day will cover month end processing and include printing month end reports and an appreciation of how to interpret them. The day will also cover further processes on FMS6 and will include:-

• Month End Checklist
• Monthly Advance/VAT Reimbursement/Payroll
• VAT Automation
• Closing Financial Periods
• Direct Debits
• Journals
• Updating Budget Allocations
• KCC Income & Expenditure Report
• Bank Reconciliation
• KCC Reconciliation Report – including manual reconciliation
• Useful Reports
• Recap Session

Course Requirements

We will provide:-

FMS6 guidance packs to include practise materials for each of the days

Delegates will be required to bring along:-
A copy of their Schools Finance Policy
Documentation gathered as part of the pre requisite work
