TEP Talks: Changing Teachers' Habits with Evidence-informed CPD - Tom Sherrington

Event code SCH 21/455
Event description Ofsted identified instructional leadership as a key driver in effective schools. Essential to instructional leadership is quality professional development. Tom’s latest Book ‘Teaching Walkthrus' grew out of the realisation that most teachers are looking to develop their practice, harnessing ideas from cognitive science and other research.

This webinar will support leaders to answer the following questions and support with designing finely tuned professional learning systems and content:

• Why can it be difficult for teachers to improve?
• What are good bets for them to work on?
• How can leaders manage professional learning and accountability procedures to maximise teacher development?

Tom started out as a physics and maths teacher and has since worked in numerous schools of different kinds as a teacher and leader. He began writing the popular blog as a way of sharing ideas and, encouraged by the engagement from teachers went on to publish The Learning Rainforest, Great Teaching in Real Classrooms and Rosenshine’s Principles in Action. He works with schools and colleges providing support on curriculum, assessment and improving the quality of teaching and is a regular speaker and contributor to conferences and education festivals.
