Managing Misconceptions in KS1

Event description Many misconceptions exist in mathematics. Identifying these can be quite a challenge but anticipating them and planning for these can be even more difficult. This course will support teachers to identify some of the most common misconceptions within the National Curriculum maths topics and locate resources to support planning and teaching.

This course will run for both key stages. Delegates are welcome to attend both but please be aware, there will be elements of shared content between the sessions to ensure consistent messages and approaches throughout the primary years.

This course is part of the Primary Schools Training Package.

This session will run as an interactive Zoom session. Delegates will be sent the link no later than 24 hours before the start date. Please ensure you are able to access Zoom at least 1 hour prior to the session. Please note that these are not recorded and therefore not available to watch at a later date and delegates need to attend as a live session.

Participants who are unable to install Zoom can join our training using the Zoom web client on their desktop web browser. The Join from your browser link will appear after the user clicks on the link to join the meeting. 
Training objectives - Develop an understanding of the difference between an error or mistake and a misconception and know why it is important to distinguish between mistakes and misconceptions;
- Locate sources of support to help anticipate potential misconceptions before they arise;
- Identify likely misconceptions within the maths topics;
- Know how to plan tasks to tackle misconceptions and how to use a misconception as a teaching point.
