Event description Beginners setting the Budget using the Budget Planning Software 2019-20 (Demonstration, Questions and Answers) and workshop

Introduction

This full day session is for individuals who have not previously set a budget for a local authority (Kent) school using the Budget Planning Software (BPS).

The assumptions will be that all delegates attending are at a Kent school which uses FMS6 and have purchased the core finance package which includes the Budget Planning Software. (There is a separate session for special schools). Any school that hasn’t completed and returned their core finance package agreement must do so before coming to the training.


The day will cover

• Funding information from the LA Budget team
• How to input information on to the funding templates and transfer to the BPS
• The structure and basic functions of the Budget Planning Software (BPS)
• How to update salary information to the BPS and apply the apprenticeship levy
• A demonstration of how to input the remainder of the 3 year budget information to the (BPS); funding, income and expenditure
• Any new features applicable for the latest version of BPS – (note: the process of monitoring the school’s budget will NOT be covered. Separate training dates for monitoring the school budget are available on CPD Online).
• Time will also be dedicated to a workshop session where each school will be able to work using their own information (note: There will be insufficient time to complete a full budget on the day.
• Questions will be taken

Delegates are required to bring along the following -

• Their letter of confirmation from CPD, to confirm that a place has been booked, for that day
• Delegates are required to bring along their own laptop and power pack
• Logon details must be available on the day to log in to your computer as well as BPS
• The BPS will be web based therefore access to the internet will be required. Please note the venue will have wireless internet in the room. Without internet access you will not be able to access your school’s BPS
• Candidates should bring a memory stick with them if they do not wish to bring hard copies
• The “Information required for 2019-20 Budget Setting on the BPS” document must have been completed and returned to Schools Financial Services prior to attendance. This document will be sent out separately to schools as an e mail early February 2019
• Please complete where required the Budget Setting Preparation Checklist which also provides details of information which you should bring along to the training session. This document will be sent out separately to schools as an e mail early February 2019


If you do not have all the necessary information on the day and are unable to stay for the whole session a half day charge may apply

Who should attend?

Finance staff and other school staff who will be involved in making strategic decisions about the way forward for the school

Please note that we cannot accommodate more than 2 delegates per school with one laptop between them

There will be a charge per person for non-attendance if Schools Financial Services is not informed of a cancellation within the required time. This will be in line with the existing terms & conditions on CPD Online
