Primary NQT Induction Programme - Ashford (SSI SLA) (5 sessions)

Event description The transition from Student teacher to NQT can sometimes seem overwhelming and the Primary Induction programme has been designed to ensure that these first steps are built on a strong foundation.

These sessions are designed to be interactive and delegates are asked to come prepared to play an active part, they are very full sessions and would ask delegates to arrive in good time.

Following feedback from NQTs/schools and in line with recently announced DFE initiatives we have decided to redesign the primary programme, there will always be something which needs to be covered earlier but we have tried to address as many areas as possible.
This year there will be five sessions starting in term 2 each session will be 3 hours in length and broken down to cover aspects identified by delegates and a main theme the first session will start in Term 2
Session 1
Being successful in induction 30 mins this will build on the online “Guide to successful induction” and show examples of what good evidence will look like and access to range or free resources.

Mental health and well being 2 hours this session will help prepared delegates for the introduction of teaching mental health issues and provide strategies on how to deal with the stresses and strains of classroom life. The overall aim of the session is to give delegates an understanding of how mental health issues can affect the way that students learn and how this may impact in the daily dynamic of the classroom environment.

Working with TA’s 30 mins making the most out of classroom support, dealing with tricky relationships and give instructions.

Session 2

This session will focus on behaviour management and equip delegates with a range of strategies to use in the classroom it is an interactive session and delegates will gain most if they come prepared to share problems they have encountered.

Session 3

First part of the session 1 hours will be looking at differentiation and how to make sure that lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of all children regardless of SEN/D or ability it will explore a range of technique’s and strategies to support students learning and promote progress.

SEN 2 hours
How does teaching children with SEN/D needs impact on the classroom environment ensuring that all students needs are met, it will focus on what resources are available and how to use them effectively, this session will be enhanced if delegates come prepared to share their experiences.

Session 4

First part (30/60 minutes) will focus on assessment for learning giving feedback and marking. Delegates should bring along their marking policy

Literacy: challenging the more able and helping them make accelerated progress this session will focus on strategies and tools to ensure that all children are able to make at least expected progress but will the main input will be on how to challenge the more able.

Session 5
Moderation (30/60 minutes) delegates will be asked to bring along samples of student’s books with and share these with others, this has proven a useful activity in previous years as it allows delegates to share their successes and see examples of how others approach similar subjects, delegates are grouped in key stages or year groups

Looking to the future, taking on a leadership role and moving forward, this session brings the programme to a close and looks at the role of subject leader, future middle leaders and includes such things as:
Preparing for subject leadership
Observing others and giving feedback
Book dips and strategies

There will be opportunities for delegates to work on other topics such as but not exclusively:
Meeting with parents
Report writing
Training objectives It is expected that delegates will attend all 5 sessions of this programme.

Funding information For subscribers of the Standards & School Improvement Service Level Agreement (SLA), one delegate from each school attends the programme free of charge.

Additional delegates will be charged as follows and the charge will be shown against event code SCH 19/608 at a cost of 35 credits for the entire programme. If credits are not available, additional bookings will be charged the same as non SLA delegates at a cost of £390.00 for the entire programme.

If delegates attend individual sessions and not the entire programme, ,they will be charged at £100.00 or 10 credits per session and will not receive an attendance certificate.

20% VAT will be added at the point of invoice
