Effective Instruction in Secondary English: Retrieval and Cognitive Load

Event code SCH 22/053
Event description Session Three: Retrieval and cognitive load.

This is session three of a series of six sessions for Early Career Teachers.

Based on the work of Barek Rosenshine and others, such as John Sweller and Dylan Wiliam, each session considers the evidence of what can work well in the English classroom to make learning happen. From modelling, to retrieval, to how we can make to most of our formative assessment practices, effective practice is considered in relation to the evidence.

The six sessions build and relate to each other and so those who want to attend all sessions will find common themes running throughout. Equally, people will find the sessions can stand alone, giving them time to consider their own practices and explore the practices of others.
