Event description | Session 3: Ratio and Proportion: Real Life Examples This is session three of a series of six sessions. The six sessions can be treated as a whole course (see course code SCH21/738) or can be attended individually. Third in the series of sessions reviewing the strands of maths alongside various pedagogical approaches. Proportion lays the foundations for good algebraic thinking. Too often premature memorisation of rules is likely to inhibit development of proportional reasoning. We will look at ways to sketch, describe and represent proportion problems and relationships between quantities in informal, invented ways before moving towards symbols and algebra. This can be often be easily related to real life problems such in slopes, scale, probabilities, vectors and rates. It will be through a lens of proportional reasoning often see the links to real life. Session 1: Number - Teaching for Understanding SCH 21/740 - 5th October 2021, 3.30pm to 5pm Session 2: Algebra - A Connected Curriculum SCH 21/741 - 16th November 2021, 3.30pm to 5pm Session 3: Ratio and Proportion: Real Life Examples SCH 21/742 - 7th December 2021, 3.30pm to 5pm Session 4: Geometry: Differentiation in the Maths Classroom SCH 22/066 - 1st February 2022, 3.30pm to 5pm Session 5: Probability: How to Make the Most of Formative Assessment SCH 22/067 - 15th March 2022, 3.30pm to 5pm Session 6: Statistics: Making Maths Creative SCH 22/068 - 26th April 2022, 3.30pm to 5pm These sessions will run as an interactive Zoom sessions. Delegates will be sent the link no later than 24 hours before the start date. Please ensure you are able to access Zoom at least 1 hour prior to the session.
