| Event description | This session will provide an overview of the essential elements of reading comprehension based on an evidence-informed overview of reading. This will include... - Frameworks and concepts for understanding reading comprehension, including the Simple View of Reading and Scarborough's Reading Rope - The connection between word recognition, fluency and comprehension - Background knowledge, vocabulary and curriculum development - Sentence structure and text structure - Inference - what it is and what it isn't - The ineffectiveness of teaching generic comprehension skills... ...and the rich, meaningful exploration of texts that should replace it Christopher Such is a primary school teacher and senior leader who has worked in education for over 15 years. He has worked with schools, MATs and initial teacher training providers to support evidence-informed reading. He is the author of The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading and the creator of the education blog, Primary Colour. He currently works for Ambition Institute and offers education consultancy on reading and curriculum development. This session will run using the GoTo Webinar platform.
